Job OpportunityThe Maryland Department of Transportation is seeking Certified Police Officers for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). This position is available only to persons who previously possessed a certification as a Police Officer from the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC) or an equivalent out of state or federal police certification.The Maryland Transit Administration is recruiting for Certified Police Officers to join its existing force serving MTA Bus, Metro, Light Rail, and MARC Train/Commuter Bus systems. The credited salary ranges up to (3) years of service starting at $77,150 - $85,061. Less than (3) years of credited service $77,150 - 81,011.QualificationsRequirements include: At least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate recognized by the State of Maryland. Required documentation includes a recent copy of your driving record, copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate, and copy of your driver's license. The selection process includes an oral interview, comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, drug and alcohol screening, and physical agility testing.Licenses & CertificationsThis position requires a valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of Maryland. A complete driving record is required; driving record must be within MTA standards. Applicants who were previously certified as a Police Officer in the State of Maryland must be able to be recertified by MPTSC within 1 but no more than 5 years of separation from the previous department/agency. The Maryland Transit Administration will verify previous certification status and recertification requirements with the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission.Additional InformationSpecial requirements include the ability to work 40 hours per week and work variable shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends based on the needs of the Maryland Transit Administration. Employees in this classification are subject to pre-employment drug and substance abuse testing.
