Sighted Guide Volunteer

We are Norfolks charity for people living with sight loss and visual impairment, providing practical and emotional support at our hubs in Norwich, Kings Lynn, and Great Yarmouth, and in hospitals across Norfolk. Summary Our Sighted Guides support visually impaired people to attend and enjoy various activities and days out with our charity. Detailed description Vision Norfolks mission is to support people living with sight loss to enjoy active, independent, and fulfilled lives. We are currently looking for Sighted Guide Volunteers to help out with activities across the county, based out of our 3 hubs in Norwich, Kings Lynn, and Great Yarmouth. Hours are flexible depending on which activities you participate in and how much time you would like to commit. Some people volunteer weekly, monthly, or as and when they can. We run numerous sports and leisure activities for people living with sight loss across Norfolk. We are looking for friendly volunteers who enjoy talking and listening to our clients while guiding them around the activity or sport they are attending. You will undergo training and learn to safely guide someone with sight loss, helping them to navigate their environment and feel confident and involved. This can also include helping them to safely move around the space, join in the activity, and describing to them what is happening and what details you can see that they might enjoy. Our Sighted Guides make a huge impact on how our clients can engage in and enjoy our services and help people participate in activities that they otherwise wouldn't be able to - it is a very rewarding role and provides a unique perspective. Minimum Requirements Have great communication skills Enjoy being part of a team Have patience and flexibility Be able to undertake the role safely and effectively Becoming a volunteer is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference and support your local community.
