The Center's services are provided to Virginia's youth toward the goal of improvement in their lives and development of their fullest potential. The Mission of the CCCA Nursing Department is to skillfully assess children for medical and mental health concerns when admitted for acute psychiatric care. The Registered Nurse responsibility is to report accurate information to the psychiatrist, who will then give direction to the RNs regarding appropriate medication and treatment regime to put into place for the patient. Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team. Ability to lead educational groups. Ability to assess, plan, implement, & evaluate patient care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, AND physical, psychological, & social needs of the psychiatric adolescent or child. Competent with TOVA, CPR and knowledge of lab values for children & adolescents. Basic computer skills. Ability to apply knowledge to meet child & adolescent needs in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Act as a resource person to communicate knowledge of the nursing process to other disciplines, community groups, & schools of nursing. Walking and/or standing for up to eight (8) hours or more. Bending & lifting. Ability to use TOVA techniques. May be exposed to aggressive patients.
