The salary range above represents this position's earning potential. The department facilitates business and reengineering processes to improve legacy workflow and streamline services to our customers.The Office of Broadband Programs (OBP) is responsible for advancing digital equity and broadband infrastructure across the County. The team provides ongoing support for Montgomery County Government's MoCoNet free residential broadband service. This position requires frequent interaction with MoCoNet customers, internal clients, contractors, and vendors at various levels on multiple projects in a professional and timely manner.WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:Montgomery County is seeking a mid to senior level technician with advanced knowledge of network technologies, including TCP/IP and wireless technologies, ensuring seamless installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of internet and Wi-Fi connected devices. This role is essential to ensure reliable connectivity and exceptional customer service for residents across the County.What You'll Be DoingExpertise in Network Technologies: The candidate will possess advanced knowledge of network technologies, including TCP/IP and wireless technologies, ensuring seamless installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of internet services and Wi-Fi devices.Field Operations- The candidate will work primarily offsite at various residential housing sites in Montgomery County, Maryland, performing installations, testing and maintenance of low voltage cabling and Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS).Customer Support and Education- The candidate will excel in customer service, providing critical support to troubleshoot and resolve internet service issues, educate customers on equipment operation, and endure long-term success with MoCoNet services.Documentation and Coordination- The candidate will create detailed project documentation, update TEBS records, and coordinate daily schedules to prioritize workload effectively.Proactive Communication- The candidate with maintain proactive communication channels with customers and internal teams, ensuring timely responses to electronic communications and status updates.Support for Network Operations- The candidate will support the Network Operations Center (NOC) and the Network Engineering staff as needed, diagnosing and resolving network related issues and optimizing network infrastructure inventory.Weekend ad On-Call Coverage- The candidate will be available for on-call and weekend emergencies, ensuring continuous support and rapid response to service disruptions or urgent issues that may arise outside of regular business hours.The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee. Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave. A criminal background (and credit history) check will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision. This position may require occasional evening hours and weekend work to meet operational needs.Minimum QualificationsExperience: Three (3) years of professional experience in the information technology field in such areas as programming, systems analysis, and data/telecommunications, depending on the duties of the position.Education : Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university, or certifications in specific programming languages or operating systems may be required, depending on the duties of the position. Programming languages might include Visual C++, Visual J++, C++, C, SQL, PowerBuilder, Oracle Developer 2000, and COBOL.Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. For applicants possessing very hard-to- find skills which are a critical need to the department/agency, training and certification may be accepted in lieu of full degree requirements.Physical Ability: Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printers, computers, modems, and monitors weighing up to 50 pounds.LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the employee's state of residence when required for job-related duties.Medical Protocol: This position requires completion of a pre-employment Medical History Form to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role.Preferred Criteria, Interview PreferencesAll Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications.
