Position Type: NL-S Certified Special Education Staff/Speech and Language Pathologist Date Posted: 10/23/2025 Location: Prairie Woods Elementary Date Available: March 2026 Closing Date: Until Filled Speech/Language Pathologist- Long Term Substitute Prairie Woods Elementary School Estimated Assignment between March 2, 2026 and May 26, 2026 General Definition of Work The Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP) identifies, evaluates, designs, and implements appropriate plans for students, writes IEPs, and is a member of the Child Study Team. The SLP also meets with parents, interprets student progress, informs parents about their child's progress, and is available for in-services. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the building principal. Essential Functions Identifies children with significant speech or language deviations through screening or referral Assesses individual children identified as demonstrating significant deviations in the area of voice, language, articulation, and fluency and conducts speech and language programs for children through direct therapy Assists in providing augmentative and alternative communication assessments (ACC) and making appropriate recommendations based on results Works with other staff in implementing recommendations Systematically observes children for medical or maturational changes Informs school district on child's evaluation and program status by means of report writing, determines program needs, and recommends appropriate intervention techniques to the school's Child Study Committee Meets with Child Study Committee and works appropriately with the team to establish IEP for each child Conducts IEP staffings, periodic reviews, etc. Schedules speech and language programs for children in the school Conducts in-services on speech and language disorders for teachers, parents, and the general public Submits data for third party billing as required Adheres to all special education due process procedures and compliance requirements Significant travel may be required Provides good public relations and customer service with member districts, staff, parents, and the general public Follows all policies and regulations Regular and prompt attendance is essential Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of an Educational Speech/Language Pathologist Thorough knowledge of special education practices and procedures Thorough knowledge of assistive technology Ability to demonstrate confidentiality Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, administrators, and outside agencies Ability to handle a variety of assignments or problems independently Ability to apply a variety of procedures and policies Ability to collect, read, summarize, compare, and apply data Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, school staff, administrators, and other agencies Ability to present to small groups and large groups Ability to write clearly and concisely Ability to use modern office equipment, technology, and related software Thorough knowledge of third party billing requirements Education and Experience Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field Physical Requirements This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information through the normal spoken word; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, inspections involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Special Requirements Valid Minnesota Licensure from Department of Education as Educational Speech/Language Pathologist from the Department of Education Valid Driver's License.
