Research Associate/Research Engineer, Staff Position

 Department of Plastic Surgery

Cleveland Clinic has a faculty position available for a well-qualified Research Associate with a special interest in device design and testing, research administration and grant writing.

The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in both our Departments of Plastics Surgery and Lerner Research Institute (LRI). The candidate must hold a PhD with track record and experience in writing grants. The applicant should have an interest in teaching students and fellows as we sponsor several accredited training programs. Approximately 80% of time will be spent in research, prototyping, testing, grant writing and 20% in lab administration.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Biomedical engineering, instrumentation, and systems engineering.
  • Collect requirements, review engineering specifications, and test plans.
  • Experience in prototyping and test of devices, CAD design, and basic programming skills in MATLAB and LabVIEW.
  • Integration of transducers to DAQs for signal acquisition, processing, and display.
  • Utilize development boards for signal acquisitions and recording.
  • Manage research labs, inventory, and biosafety compliance.
  • IACUC and animal study protocol development and documentation
  • Interface with multiple departments for the executing research activities
  • Strong medical device development experience

Our specialists have significant experience and expertise in all areas of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, pediatric craniofacial surgery, upper extremity surgery, reconstructive microsurgery, facial cosmetic surgery, cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery and plastic surgery research.

The Lerner Research Institute is home to laboratory, translational and clinical research at Cleveland Clinic.  With 170 independent fundamental laboratories, over 1500 employees, and research expenditures of $250 million per year, the Lerner Research Institute is at the forefront of discovery science, fosters translational research and accelerates innovation for patient care.
