Summary

The Plant Engineer will be responsible for designing and installing new chemical plants, including facilities, utilities, equipment, and processes, and for maintaining and improving existing ones.

Key Activities

  • Performs all phases of design, from conceptual through facility, utility, process, equipment, and detailed design.
  • Participates in the development of User Requirements Specifications, Functional Requirements Specifications, and Detailed Design Specifications.
  • Develops process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams (in AutoCAD/VISIO), and material and energy balances.
  • Specifies process equipment, instrumentation, and materials of construction.
  • Designs, selects, and installs instrumentation, controls, and data communication interfaces.
  • Manages capital projects involving planning, design, reconfiguration, or construction of company buildings, structures, or equipment from initial specification through turnover to operations.
  • Oversees contractor work, particularly the installation of buildings, utilities, and process equipment.
  • Plans and implements the facility commissioning and start-up, including preparation of Turn Over Packages.
  • Represents the company at Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Performs Site Acceptance Tests.
  • Troubleshoots operational issues in the production, Pilot Plant, and Kilo-Lab, as well as in plant utilities.
  • Directs process optimization strategies.
  • Provides scale-up expertise and advice to Process Research & Development during the R&D phase of development.
  • Provides technical advice to production.
  • Participates in Management of Change by evaluation of CORs.
  • Advises EHS&S Director on safety issues as requested.
  • Recommends breakthrough technologies to management when made aware of these incidental to other activities


Preferred Skills

  • A good understanding of clean room or classified area design and requirements is highly desired

Educations & Experience


  • B.S. Chemical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience
  • A good background in instrumentation and familiarity with PLC programming
  • General knowledge of pharmaceutical API manufacturing process operations under cGMP conditions and supporting equipment and utility systems
