SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Client Services Intern for Summer 2024 to support our offices and various other projects within the group. SWCA‘s Client Services internship position will provide the opportunity to develop a better understanding of our environmental consulting business and the business development profession.

This position will have reporting and communication requirements to our Client Services Business Line Director - Water. This position can be based in any SWCA office, and we will consider both office and remote-based candidates.

Client Services Intern positions require a demonstrated interest in clientele interface, a good attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, and good communication skills. These positions provide great opportunities for a business development student to enter and launch a career within their field, supported by leadership focused on the professional development of team members.

This internship will occur during the summer 2025 (June 3rd - August 15th). Candidates who can start earlier than June 2025 will be considered and those who can remain past August may provide additional value. In addition to project work, the internship program includes regularly scheduled presentations by SWCA leaders.

This is a paid, full-time internship with a competitive rate of $18.90 per hour.

What you will accomplish

  • Assist in the preparation of client services documents for a variety of environmental clients including federal, state and local governments.
  • Provide assistance on diverse types of business development projects, especially related to water resources, eco-restoration, disaster recovery, climate adaptation and resilience-related projects.
  • Support and resolve administrative activities by maintaining communication flow and serving as a liaison for the Client Services team.
  • Interface with Clients and internal employees to ensure outstanding customer service.
  • Learn how SWCA advises clients on federal and state regulatory issues for projects across the company‘s service area.
  • Work closely with clients, directors, and vice presidents throughout the company to promote SWCA‘s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor‘s degree in a business development related field with coursework in business, marketing, sales, economics, communications, public relations, or something similar, or a recent graduate within 12 months of May 1, 2023. Or equivalent experience.
  • Applicants that are pursuing a master‘s degree will also be considered. Ph.D. candidates are not eligible through this program.
  • Basic knowledge of sales techniques, negotiations strategies, and customer relationship management.
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must have ability and willingness to learn.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working within the environmental industry particularly in climate adaptation or sustainability.
  • Experience conducting market research and competitive analysis.
  • Prior leadership experience within a client interfacing position.
