Editorial Graphic Designer

The Editorial Graphic Designer for THE STAND magazine is responsible for working with The Stand staff to design and layout AFA’s 4-color magazine that publishes 11 times a year. Generally, the magazine is 32 pages. The Editorial Graphic Designer would also design and layout advertisements for various AFA departments and projects.

Other tasks will include:

-manage Getty Images stock photo account

-manage file storage and archive of designs and magazines

-generate yearly schedule for magazine workflow (based upon previous years)

Education required:

-Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, or related field

Skills and proficiencies required:

-Graphic design experience in both print and digital mediums (2 years minimum)

-Expert skills with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.

-Excellent typography skills

-Writing/editing skills, especially for headlines, photo captions, and fitting text

-Organized project manager and good communicator

-Knowledge of offset printing fundamentals, pre-press processes and technologies

-Strong attention to detail and ability to meet project deadlines while also producing quality work

Skills and proficiencies not required but are a plus:

-Drawing and illustration experience

-Familiar with excel spreadsheets

-Familiar with Microsoft Word

-Familiar with online storage platforms such as .ftp sites, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
