GENERAL
The overnight chaperone is primarily responsible for overseeing the health and safety of students grades 4-8 on overnight field trips in assigned bunkhouses. Staff will be scheduled in pairs to oversee a bunkhouse with a maximum of 48 campers. We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with children and can create safe and memorable experiences while at camp.
Part-time overnight hours: 8:30pm-8:00am
The chaperone position pay is based on a modified work schedule of no more than 4 workdays with 10-hour shifts. Wage: $16-16.50. Each shift has anticipated overtime of 1-2 hours.
This position supports the missions and operations of the Orange County Boy Scouts of America and the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center:
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
The mission of The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center is to serve all youth of Orange County by providing quality outdoor educational programs that instill in them an appreciation of the outdoors and the environment, teach effective teamwork, instruct about the cultural history of Orange County, and provide access to the natural resources of the surrounding areas.
REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum age requirement is 18
• Ability to work overnight programs
• Ability to work independently
• Maintains certification in Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED
JOB DUTIES
• Create a safe and fun overnight experience for campers
• Interact with campers through conversation, games, and activities in the bunkhouse
• Ensure campers are well rested and prepared for day activities
• Display a positive attitude and assist campers if a need arises
• Approach campers missing home with kindness, understanding, and patience
• Provide basic first aid
• Follow and implement the standards and policies of OCBSA and IROEC
• Sleeping is permitted for chaperones, but chaperones must stay attentive to camper needs as they arise
• As this position requires the chaperone to sleep in a shared living space allergens cannot be brought into that environment. Allergens include but are not limited to outside food, perfumes/colognes/strongly scented products, animal dander, etc.
