Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to established procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for the procedure. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Verifies proper clinician order for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety. Ensures that studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are used appropriately. Reviews imaging for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and assists in maintaining life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies correct identity of patients using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing a procedure. Ensures patient's privacy and comfort during the exam. Demonstrates competence in age-appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection. Utilizes critical thinking skills. Dialogues with patients and families, asking clarifying questions when necessary. Understands, demonstrates, and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. Demonstrates understanding of pre- and post-procedural care, preparing patients for procedures. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Equipment: Demonstrates the ability to adjust techniques to minimize ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor to ensure timely corrections. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policies. Education and Communication: Clearly explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patient questions, concerns, or contraindications satisfactorily. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Ensures required documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Reads emails daily and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory education without prompting. Quality Control: Consistently produces acceptable images as evidenced by feedback and quality audits. Ensures equipment is operational before each use by checking for calibration and deficiencies. Sends studies to PACS immediately after completion. Completes all studies in RIS before finalizing in PACS. Operations: Restocks linens and supplies. Maintains department in a clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions patients. Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices as necessary. Lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request. Performs routine duties of clerical personnel when warranted to ensure quality services. Keeps supervisors informed of responsibilities and issues. Maintains individual productivity equivalent to co-workers. Operates all workstations associated with the department. Maintains regulatory standards and takes call when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards, and codes of conduct.
