Chemist II

Apex Systems is seeking an Analytical Chemist to join their environmental lab team in the Essex MD area

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM

Summary: Join our team as a Chemist II and play a pivotal role in safeguarding public health. You will be instrumental in analyzing water samples from various stages of treatment to ensure the highest quality of drinking water for the community. Your meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy will contribute to the excellence of our water quality division.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analytical Mastery: Conduct a range of chemical analyses, from fundamental to advanced, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers (AAS), Gas Chromatographs (GC), Mass Spectrometers (MS), and Ion Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometers (ICP-MS).
• Microbiology Support: Engage in vital microbiological testing, maintaining strict sample integrity and chain-of-custody protocols.
• Data Integrity: Record and manage test results with utmost accuracy in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), contributing to comprehensive reports for quality review.
• Quality Assurance: Perform calibration and quality control procedures, ensuring all equipment operates at peak performance and adheres to our rigorous quality standards.
• Leadership and Training: Mentor and train junior chemists and microbiologists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence in water analysis.
• Operational Support: Assist in emergency response analyses and maintain a well-organized, safe laboratory environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
• Exceptional mathematical and analytical skills.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Discrete Analyzers, and/or ICP-MS/OES.
• SEAL experience preferred but not required.
