We provide:Comprehensive health benefits that start day 1Student Loan Repayment Assistance & Reimbursement ProgramsFamily-focused benefitsWellness incentivesOngoing mentorship and leadership programsAnd moreWork Location: Atlanta, GADescriptionThe Corporate Director of Risk Management plays a critical role in advancing our culture of safety, providing leadership and direction to Emory Healthcare's Risk Management team.Reporting directly to the Vice President Risk Management for Emory Healthcare this role is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to the organization, its patients, employees, and assets.The role involves developing and implementing strategies to reduce risk exposure, ensure regulatory compliance, improve patient safety, and promote a culture of safety across the organization.The Corporate Director of Risk Management will work closely with other executives, department leaders, and clinical staff to establish a risk-conscious environment that minimizes potential liability, addresses patient care quality concerns, and protects the organization from legal and financial exposure.Risk Identification and AssessmentLead the identification of risks across the organization, including clinical, operational, regulatory, financial, reputational, and technological risksConduct regular risk assessments and collaborate with department leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of existing risk management strategiesLead the operations of Emory Healthcare's risk management program including development of risk reporting, monitoring standards and system-wide safety initiativesRisk Mitigation and Strategy DevelopmentDevelop and implement comprehensive risk management programs, policies, and procedures designed to address identified risks and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulationsWork with senior leadership to prioritize and manage risks, ensuring that risk management efforts align with organizational goalsRisk Management ImprovementLead risk management mitigation initiatives to promote patient safety across the health systemEnsure adherence to best practices in patient safety, risk reporting, and corrective action planningRegulatory Compliance and Legal OversightEnsure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and other state and federal mandatesPartners with organizations legal and insurance claims, ensuring that appropriate steps are taken to resolve disputes, minimize liabilities, and avoid litigationCollaborate with internal and external counsel on corporate, regulatory and liability issuesClaims ManagementOversee investigations of potentially compensable incidents and collaborate with Claims Department on Professional Liability and General Liability claims, lawsuits as well as Board ComplaintsTraining and EducationDevelop and implement risk management training programs for staff at all levels, emphasizing safety protocols, patient care practices, and risk awarenessEnsure that all staff are regularly updated on changes in risk management policies, regulatory requirements, and best practicesIncident ResponseLead the organizations response to critical incidents and major risk events, including natural disasters, public health emergencies, and large-scale patient safety concernsDevelop and maintain crisis management plans and communication strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and the organizationReporting and AnalyticsMonitor, analyze, and report on risk-related trends and incidents, providing actionable insights to senior leadership and board membersDevelop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of risk management efforts and patient safety initiativesCollaboration and LeadershipSupervise and mentor direct report risk managers, ensuring excellence in performance, development and engagementServe as a member of the senior leadership team, providing input and guidance on risk-related mattersPartner with other department heads (e.g., clinical, legal, finance) to ensure a unified approach to risk management across the organizationFoster a culture of safety, accountability, and transparency throughout the organizationAdditional Duties as AssignedTravel: Less than 10% of the time may be requiredWork Type: Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the officeMinimum Required Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, pharmacy or related fieldExperience (Required): Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience (Nursing, Pharmacy, or Social Work) or equivalent healthcare setting experienceSkills, Abilities & Knowledge:Analytical Skills: Ability to identify risks, assess their impact, and develop strategies to mitigate themLeadership: Proven leadership capabilities, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop a high-performing risk management teamCommunication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organizationProblem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in high-stress or crisis situationsCollaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including clinical, legal, compliance, and executive teamsPatient-Centered Focus: A strong commitment to improving patient safety, care quality, and overall health outcomesPreferred Qualifications:Education: Master's degree, or Doctorate in Nursing, Social Work, Pharmacy or Juris DoctorateExperience: Prior healthcare risk management or professional liability experienceCertification:1. Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management CPHRM2.
