Shipfitter Helper 2

Job Posting: Shipfitter HelperPosition Specifics: The Shipfitter Helper 2 are used to prevent and/or extinguish fires at the incipient (beginning) stage. They monitor hot work sites to ensure that conditions do not change when combustible materials cannot be effectively removed, protected, or shielded. Shipfitter Helpers also require specialized training and are assigned to minimize damage that may be caused by a fire. If a fire does occur, they take appropriate actions to protect all workers.Minimum Requirements:Perform successful completion of the fire-watch trainingEnsure safety awareness and ability to follow directionsMust have a minimum of 3 to 6 months of relevant experienceMust be able to work 1st and 2nd shiftThe ability to acquire a DBIDS credential is requiredUS Person is requiredPhysical Requirements:Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environmentMay be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Frequently moves throughout the shipyardWork at heights and in confined spacesMust be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spacesMust be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 40 poundsMay be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teamsThe Continental Maritime of San Diego Management Team is committed to providing the necessary structure, tools, and environment for our employees.
