The division unites internal and external communications to advance the foundation's mission and amplify its impact around the world. As we enter the next phase of our strategy, we are building a leadership team to deepen our impact. The Internal Communications team plays a vital role in connecting employees to our shared purpose bringing our mission to life, elevating the employee experience, and shaping the culture that defines who we are.Application Deadline: We will begin reviewing applications as soon as possible and encourage early submissions. The deadline to apply is Friday, December 5.Your RoleAs a senior communications leader, the Director, Internal Communications, will define and deliver a bold, human-centered internal communications strategy that informs, inspires, and aligns employees around the foundation's mission and values, during a defining period of organizational transformation. As the foundation progresses on its journey toward closure in 2045, your leadership will shape how employees experience the foundation, how the organization's culture evolves, and ultimately help define the foundation's legacy. You will ensure that every stage of our transition is marked by clarity, empathy, and shared purpose. You will report into the Chief Communications Officer and work in close partnership with members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), including the Chief People Officer and the Chief Executive Officer, as well as their Chiefs of Staff. You will serve as a trusted strategic advisor on how the CEO and ELT communicates with the foundation around organizational changes, cultural communications and employee engagement. You will help leaders communicate authentically and effectively, building confidence, connection, and trust across a global workforce. You are a skilled storyteller and coach who combines strategic acumen with emotional intelligence. You know how to navigate sensitive and complex moments with transparency and care, shaping communications that motivate and unite employees around impact and legacy.What You'll Do:Set the Vision and Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive internal communications strategy that connects employees globally to the foundation's mission, priorities, and values.Strengthen Leadership Communications: Advise the CEO, Chief of Staff, Executive Leadership Team, and senior leaders on communication strategies that enhance authenticity, empathy, and effectiveness during times of change.Shape the Foundation's Internal Narrative: Define and steward a cohesive, inspiring internal story that reinforces optimism, trust, and alignment with the foundation's enduring mission and values.Drive Engagement and Connection: Design and deliver high-impact internal momentssuch as the Annual Employee Meeting and all-staff engagements that build belonging, celebrate impact, and strengthen our shared culture.Lead a Global Team: Oversee and empower a talented global internal communications team responsible for editorial strategy, leadership communications, employee storytelling, and enterprise-wide events and initiatives.Enhance Channels and Systems: Ensure internal communications channels are dynamic, inclusive, and responsive to employees' needs facilitating open dialogue and continuous learning.Support Change and Transformation: Partner with the Office of the CEO, the People function, and the Foundation Strategy Office to deliver clear, coordinated communications around key initiatives, leadership forums, and organizational change.Foster Alignment Across Audiences: Ensure coherence between internal and external narratives by collaborating across the Communications Division and with key stakeholders who oversee partner engagement, including the Partnerships for Impact team (sitting within the People function).Build Leadership Capability: Develop frameworks, tools, and training that strengthen communication skills across all levels of leadership, enabling consistent, compassionate, and effective communication.Leverage Insight and Impact: Use data, employee feedback, and organizational insight to measure and enhance communication effectiveness, continuously adapting approaches as the foundation evolves.Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and globally as needed.Your Experience:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Organizational Development, Public Relations, Business Administration, or related field.15+ years of senior-level experience in internal or employee communications within large, complex, and global organizations.Proven success leading communications strategies that drive engagement, cultural alignment, and organizational transformation.Expertise translating complex strategies or change processes into clear, inspiring, and actionable narratives.Demonstrated experience coaching and advising senior executives on leadership communications, change management, culture communications and employee engagement.Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editorial judgment skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for diverse audiences and leaders.Experience leading and developing global communications teams and managing multiple priorities with diplomacy and clarity.Deep understanding of enterprise and employee communications best practices, including how to build trust and resilience during uncertainty.High emotional intelligence, integrity, and cultural sensitivity; able to foster belonging and optimism in a mission-driven, time-bound organization.#LI-PA1The salary range for this role is $261,700 to $405,700 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $285,300 to $442,100 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint.
