Lumos Diagnostics is seeking a Research Associate I or II to contribute to our dynamic Research & Development team. Under the guidance of senior science staff, the RA will leverage a robust understanding of basic biological and engineering principles to advance the development of lateral flow-based diagnostic tests. Collaborating with fellow scientific team members, the RA will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing new lateral flow immunoassays. This laboratory position demands a highly motivated individual with adept laboratory skills and a keen enthusiasm for continuous learning.


Depending on the candidate’s experience, this could be either a Research I or Research II opportunity. During the interview process with the R&D Leadership team, candidates will have the opportunity to discuss their experience, qualifications, and skill set. Based on this discussion, the appropriate job level will be offered to the selected candidate.

Major Responsibilities

  • Performs experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  • Demonstrates and applies a basic understanding of scientific methods, research protocols, assessment instruments, and data interpretation.
  • Performs accurate and robust immunoassays.
  • Tests lateral flow strips with supervision.
  • Assists with conjugating antibodies and other proteins of interest to colloidal gold and latex microbeads.
  • Performs stability, sensitivity, and specificity studies assigned by Project Lead/Scientist.
  • Processes and records results and data.
  • Communicates results to the Supervisor.
  • Assists with assay development of Point-Of-Care diagnostics.
  • Assists with solving technical issues.
  • Adheres to safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Performs and documents all work per GLP and ISO guidelines.
  • Tests the devices with biological samples such as blood, serum, plasma, urine, tears, CSF, cell cultures, etc. with guidance and oversight by Project Lead/Scientist.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.


Minimum Education & Qualifications

·      B.S. degree (or B.A. degree within a scientific discipline) and 0 – 2 years of experience.

·      Familiar with Lateral Flow test development and production.

·      Familiar with protein conjugation to gold and latex particles.

·      Capable of routine protein handling and aseptic techniques.

·      Familiar with protein purification and characterization.

·      Capable of handling and testing biological samples such as serum/plasma, urine, etc.

·      Knowledge of Design Control and Quality System Regulations (QSR).

·      Knowledge of Design Control and Quality System Regulations (QSR).

  • Total compliance with GLP and GMP guidelines.

·      Knowledge of experimental design. Regulatory requires input from the supervisor for interpretation.

·      Adherence to the General Clinical Laboratory Practices.

·      Complete compliance with all local and state biohazardous procedures and guidelines.

·      Attention to detail and helps identify mistakes or technical issues.

·      Basic algebraic, statistical, and mathematical skills.

·      Above-average personal organizational skills.

·      Knowledge of laboratory skills, such as:

§ Antibody conjugation

§ ELISA experience

§ Tissue culture

§ Solution preparation

§ UV spec

§ Affinity chromatography

§ Gel electrophoresis

·      Computer skills with Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.


Compensation:

The annual salary for this position ranges from $50,000 to 71,000, excluding potential bonuses. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We prioritize pay equity and internal equity when making offers, ensuring room for future salary growth.
