Job Title: Medical Coding/Billing/Insurance Specialist (Full-Time)

Job Duties

• Gather pertinent information from students, athletic trainers, or other providers regarding referral to doctor/facility (date of injury, type of injury and referral needed)
• Review the insurance information and make the appropriate referral to an in-network facility
• Determine the financial obligation that will need to be paid at time of service (co-pay, deductibles)
• Act as a liaison between clinical staff, hospitals and health plans for referrals, prior authorizations and anything to get the student the care they need and their insurance to pay in a timely manner.
• Document all communications, actions and other data in an information system to be able to run reports.
• Responsible for analyzing all incoming medical claims/bills for payment or denials and then correcting any issues with facilities.
• Send verified claims/bills to Wingate University for payment of any copays, deductibles, and/or coinsurance that have been determined to be the financial responsibility of the University.
• Assist with insurance verification in the fall and spring.
• Updating internal billing system (Medicat) with any changes in the student's insurance.
• Be up-to-date with the latest insurance regulations for claims processing, knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping, medical terminology and HIPPA.
• Review visit charges daily and submit claims to insurance via clearinghouse.
• Post payments and write-offs for billed charges.
• Run unpaid claim reports and resubmit or call insurance for non-paid claims.

Qualifications/Experience

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a medical office
• Experience with google sheets and Excel
• High School diploma
