General Summary:

The R&D Avionics & Electrical Technician installs, maintains, and repairs electronic systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Inspects tests, adjusts, and repairs avionics equipment, such as radar, radio, pulse, navigation, auto pilot, and compass systems, installed in aircraft, using hand tools and test equipment.
  2. Inspects components of avionics equipment for defects, such as loose connections and frayed wire, and for accuracy of assembly and installation.
  3. Tests avionics equipment under simulated or actual operating conditions to determine performance and airworthiness, using test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, digital meters and counters, and circuit analyzers.
  4. Adjusts, replaces, or repairs defective components based on analysis of test results, following blue prints, schematics, handbooks, and other technical documents.
  5. Calibrates installed or repaired equipment.
  6. Responsible for flight test instrumentation and modification
  7. Provide ground operation support for Flight Test
  8. Maintains record of repairs.

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience with flight operation support required.
  3. Experience with aircraft wiring, repair or wiring modification required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to understand wiring drawings.
  3. Strong skills in avionics and airframe and power plant technical support including installation, repair, and fabrication support.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and judgment in mechanical repair and fabrication situations and in addressing engineers and their design and modification needs.
  5. Strong knowledge of glass cockpit avionics systems; troubleshooting; ringing out; wiring diagrams; wiring needs; and wiring practices, mods, and terminations.
  6. Ability to interface with internal engineering support and outside suppliers and vendors and project a good professional image.
  7. Must have good prioritizing skills and strong team skills.
  8. Must be willing to travel as needed and be able to be flexible and to change direction rapidly as situations change.
  9. Flexibility to various schedules and overtime.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 501bs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided ‘reach assistance technology‘ or ‘movement assist technology‘ (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly‘s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
  9. Ability to work tight space, high place and outside environment.
