Job SummaryPermian Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. The transformational acquisitions of Concho Resources Inc. and Shell Enterprises LLC's prolific positions in the Delaware and Midland Basins in 2021 further strengthened the company's position in the Permian Basin. At year-end 2023, the company held approximately 1 million total net acres in the Permian Basin.
During 2023, net production averaged 719 MBOED.
If you are selected as the Well Planner, you will be supporting our Permian Business Unit. You will participate in multi-discipline well planning as well as developing well plans in agreement with stated well and project objectives. This will be done in full compliance with applicable policies, standards and regulations, with a focus on safety of personnel, environmental stewardship and operational integrity.
Job Description
Your responsibilities may include:
- Develop and maintain project well plans, timelines and schedules for complex multi-well/multi-pad drilling program
- Monitor and communicate project status to stakeholders at all levels.
- Facilitate project team meeting to address risk, cost, and resources
- Identify opportunities for project workflow and process improvement
- Implement project planning best practices
- Establish communications with core disciplines to incorporate objectives into project development plans as requested by Asset team
- Collaborate with drilling team to ensure well plan designs achieve cost effective performance in fast paced horizontal drilling program
- Advise drilling team on appropriate survey programs to ensure wellbore positioning accuracy
- Knowledge of State/Federal regulatory agencies and applicable regulations as needed to ensure compliance for regulatory permitting and execution
- Ensure surface proposals are following state regulatory and lease agreement requirements
- Expert in wellbore positioning and survey management
- Interface with Global Wells as wellbore positioning and anti-collision expertise as needed
- Expert Level Landmark EDM (Compass) user. Manage database to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Expert Level AutoCAD Users
- Knowledge of Well Pad construction
- Proficient MS Office Suite Users
- Participating in benchmarking studies (both internal and external to COP) to identify, transfer and apply best well planning practices
- Evaluate application and implementation of best well planning practices and new technology
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Business, related field or foreign equivalent
- 5 or more years of combined experience in engineering, surveying, or well planning
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work outside standard business hours
Preferred:
- 10 or more years of well planning experience in the upstream industry
- 7 or more years of experience working directly for an oil and gas operating company
- 7 or more years of experience in unconventional reservoir plays
- 5 or more years of industry experience in all aspects of well planning
- Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
- Well-developed project management skills
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders and other team members to meet goals.

- Knowledge of well reporting (WellView)software
- Knowledge of ArcMap and Global Mapper software
