Our primary focus is providing psychiatric rehabilitation through a nurturing and safe environment that fosters recovery. Our ultimate goal is to promote social connection and target prosocial values to help move these individuals toward self-management and reintegration into the community. The Recovery and Self-Motivation Program treats these individuals using a combination of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Prosocial Principles, while incorporating Restorative Justice practices.

The New Outlook Program

The New Outlook Program for Behavior and Mood Self-Management (NOP) is one of four long-term treatment programs at Fulton State Hospital and has a 75-bed capacity. NOP was conceptualized to treat individuals who experience severe mood dysregulation and who exhibit challenging behavior as a result. Many participants meet the criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder, as well as other severe personality disorders, mood disorders, diagnoses involving intellectual and developmental delays, and various paraphilias. In order to treat this unique population, our program uses a combination of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Positive Behavior Support. As our participants have very individualized treatment needs, an emphasis is placed on creating personalized target behaviors and incentive programs. NOP strives to guide participants in developing a skillful method of responding to stressful situations and dysregulated emotions through providing compassionate care and treatment, with the ultimate goal of assisting them in achieving a life worth living.
