Franklin Township, United States Coulomb Technology Full time

Zinc-MnO2 Battery CTO – Leader with 5+ years of industry experience working on theory and development of aqueous acidic Zn-MnO2 batteries or similar. Must know how to design a full Zn-MnO2 battery cell and extrapolate lab cell data to full cell data such as specific energy density and expected cost.

Details

Direct team to make 0.5mm thick cathodes with teflon, full cells, test, and characterize them. Spend time reading relevant research papers, provide theory of how our battery works, provide ideas how to improve our performance, develop an understanding of the 2nd electron of MnO2 and how to cycle it long term, assess other complimentary technologies like Navy’s 3D anode, prioritize our product development roadmap, keep our weekly project tracker up to date, create a schedule / gantt chart to estimate our development work to the start of production manufacturing, look into setting up DOE’s, help apply to grants. Manage our machine learning modeling work with our partners.

The minimum experience they must have is:

  • Phd or Masters in physical chemistry, electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, or material science
  • 5 years of industry experience working on theory and development of Zn-MnO2 batteries. Acidic pH is preferred
  • At least 2yrs experience in a supervisory position managing all levels of scientists and technicians
  • Accomplishment should include the successful transfer of cell designs to engineering and/or production
  • Experience in acid - based cell development particularly MnO2-Zn, Li-Zn, or Zn-Br2 is a plus
  • Working on the structural stability of MnO2
  • Work to stop the inert / non-cycling compounds that are created in the anode and cathode.
  • Work to reduce HER and corrosion
  • Work to cycle the second electron of MnO2
  • Work to increase the nominal voltage
  • Know how to make, test, and characterize pouch cells
  • Able to run projects and lead teams
  • Excellent leadership skills

Terms

  • We are a bootstrapped early-stage company that is making great progress and we looking for folks who believe in our technology, vision, and future based on the traction we have so far.
  • We have met with many investors who are interested once we have good results from our battery. We have also applied to many grants. We expect to close funding in late October and can pay more then. The pay will be anywhere from $0 to $100k/year and we will provide up to 12% equity for the right person. We believe we will be a $1B company by 2028 and 12% equity should be worth $27M by then. As you progress, we will offer more equity as well.
  • Pay will increase once we are funded.
  • If you could get our cells to 150Wh/kg at 200 cycles at 1C within 2 months or so, we will offer more stock.
