Horticulture Maintenance WorkerAs a member of the Town's Horticulture team, maintenance worker's perform skilled and unskilled work in a variety of landscape maintenance projects to include the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers; landscape construction and repair projects; tree pruning and removal; mowing and trimming; etc. The Town is seeking an enthusiastic and responsible individual to join our team and help keep our community looking its bestSchedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pmAll new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a physical exam and drug screening.The Town of Front Royal is an equal opportunity employer in all aspects of employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, national origin, age, marital status, disability (physical/mental), family medical history, genetic information, political affiliation, or veteran status.Perform property maintenance tasks; operate mowers, weed eater, blowers, edger and other equipment as needed; trim shrubs and bushesPlant grass, trees and flowers; seed, fertilize, and aerate fieldsPerform manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets, utilities, and related facilitiesOperate all manner of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, pitch forks, hose trowels, weed diggers, pruners, loppers, and hand sawsInspect and clean high visibility areas for ground trash and debris; collect ground trash in all areas before mowing; pick up and dispose of debris and deceased animals from the roadwayOperate dump trucks, mowers, chain saws, pumps, mixers, trimmers, tractors, skid loader and similar equipmentAssist with equipment maintenance and repairPerform flagging dutiesAssist with snow and ice removalRequirements:High School Diploma or GEDOne or more years of experience in horticulture maintenance such as mowing, pruning, mulching, planting and weedingMust possess a valid drivers licenseMust posses or have the ability to obtain a Class B CDL license certification within six (6) months of employmentMust have the ability to obtain a Flagger Certification within three (3) months of employmentQualifications:Knowledge of mowing equipment and landscape maintenance toolsSome knowledge of proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs and flowersAbility to operate mowing equipment, chain saw, and power pole sawAbility to perform manual labor and work for extended time periods under various climatic conditionsAbility to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writingAbility to understand and follow specific oral instructions to complete tasks in a timely mannerAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other departmentsWork Environment:This position is subject to outside environmental conditions to include extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, animals and insects, traffic and other hazards, and atmospheric conditionsPotential exposure to pesticides including herbicides, insecticides, miticides and cleaning chemicalsPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) providedPhysical Demands:This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
