Job Summary The Orthopedic Technologist will assist physicians and physician assistants in the care and treatment of patients within an orthopedic clinical setting. This role includes performing casting, splinting, dressing changes, and other orthopedic procedures, as well as supporting clinic operations such as patient intake, room preparation, documentation, and maintaining medical supplies. The Orthopedic Technologist plays a key role in ensuring efficient patient flow and delivering high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities Assist orthopedic physicians and physician assistants with patient care, including casting, splinting, and care of casts, splints, and external fixators. Perform patient intake, obtain medical history, and prepare examination rooms and materials. Anticipate provider needs during procedures and ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available. Apply and remove orthopedic devices (casts, splints, braces) for patients of all age groups. Perform suture and staple removal, dressing changes, and assist with test scheduling. Maintain organized, clean, and properly stocked treatment and exam rooms. Accurately document patient interactions, nurse notes, and medication refills in electronic medical records. Answer and return patient calls promptly, ensuring high-quality patient communication. Prepare surgical charts, collect necessary documentation (orders, consents, etc.), and assist in surgery preparation. Process durable medical equipment (DME) applications when required. Support patient flow throughout the clinic and assist with room turnover and restocking supplies. Stay up to date with new orthopedic techniques, procedures, and equipment through continuing education. Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations. Required Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED Licensure/Certification: Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required. Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to operate general office equipment (computer, scanner, printer, telephone, etc.). Effective time management and prioritization abilities. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Professional and positive communication with patients and team members. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working in an orthopedic clinical or hospital setting. Certifications Orthopedic Technologist Certification (OTC) — required. Basic Life Support (BLS) — required.
