Integrity must be maintained in accordance with accreditation and Quality Control Standards. The individual in this position will fully understand the purpose and operation of Perioperative Services. The ability to make decisions based on sound judgment is crucial when situations dictate. Essential Functions: Maintains documentation for all methods and adheres to recall procedures. Operates washer sterilizer, ultrasonic, Sterrad, EO, and Steam sterilizers in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines. Develops and requires strict adherence to maximum quality control processing and cleaning standards. Completes sterilization and processing according to documented procedures. Checks on-site department daily to replenish supplies and pick up biohazard bins in a timely manner. Maintains loaner instruments by following IFUs and tracking set forth in the sterilization process. Responsible for cleaning all flexible scopes. Tests and reviews all instruments and sets to ensure they are in proper working order prior to use. Tapes instruments according to AAMI and AORN recommendations. Communicates with on-site and off-site departments to ensure their needs are met. Maintains knowledge of where to send out various pieces of equipment for repairs. Understands and follows the process for IUSS. Ensures all QA tests are done according to IFUs, AAMI, AORN, and organizational processes. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. Ensures self-compliance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements. Ensures courteous and efficient interactions with team members and support groups. Conducts self professionally and ensures personal appearance meets the necessary standards. Handles additional accountabilities, as required by management, to meet organizational standards. Work Environment: This position reports to the Perioperative Services Director. Works closely with staff members and sterile core technicians to promote optimal care for surgical patients. Education & Experience: Education: High school diploma or GED. Experience: One year of SPD, surgery, or related experience preferred. Skills/Competencies: Knowledge of inventory control principles and sterile techniques. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Time management skills to meet deadlines for equipment sterilization. Research abilities for new equipment sterilization procedures. Knowledge of numeric filing system preferred. Knowledge of Meditech system preferred. Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department-specific checklist. Critical thinking skills are necessary. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Demonstrates competency in patient care across all age groups. Physical Requirements: Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling are required. Manual dexterity is necessary. Ability to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. Good reading eyesight is essential. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written skills is required. There will be up to 24 hours of call-off available to the facility during the course of the assignment.
