Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer(Substation) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide and coordinate the overall protection and control of greenfield and brownfield substations, overseeing and performing the design and application of system protection for all substation equipment from 13kV to 500kV. This role ensures that the development of designs and specifications complies with industry and client-specific standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide and coordinate the overall protection and control of greenfield and brownfield substations.
  • Oversee and perform the design and application of system protection for all substation equipment from 13kV to 500kV.
  • Assure that designs and specifications comply with industry and client-specific standards.
  • Perform and oversee protection relay settings, including fault current calculation, coordination study, protection relay IED configuration, and relay setting reports using relay settings study software.
  • Develop and interpret single lines and modify AC/DC elementary, panel arrangements, wiring diagrams, circuit schedules, conduit schedules, and bills of materials.
  • Perform and oversee SCADA/RTU design and engineering.
  • Develop and lead all aspects of 13kV to 500kV substation electrical and physical design.
  • Understand and execute plans related to substation components, substation layout, and related electrical studies (clearance, grounding, isolation, etc.), work planning, coordination, reporting, and cost estimating.
  • Acquire all technical data needed for estimates and execution of new substation development or existing substation expansions.
  • Design station main one line diagrams, electrical plans, conduit and light plans, lightning protection, grounding calculations, station typical elevations, and BOMs.
  • Write equipment specifications and review vendor drawings.
  • Provide technical direction in determining the feasibility, cost, and design of major capital and maintenance projects.
  • Perform and oversee engineering designs, relay protection schemes, adherence to standards, standards and specification development, project scopes, estimates, designs, and QA/QC.
  • Oversee Substation Protection Replacement or Upgrade projects including Line Protection, Transformer Protection, Bus Protection, Feeder Protection, Reactor Protection, Capacitor Protection, Remedial Action Scheme (RAS), Special Protection System (SPS), etc.
  • Perform and oversee engineering of equipment such as Transformer Replacements, Circuit Breaker Replacements, Capacitor Bank Replacements, Regulator Replacements, CCVT Replacements, Oil Filtration System additions, and Feeder Telemetry Installations.
  • Perform and oversee engineering of increased capacity and scheme modification projects.
  • Act as the single point of contact within the company for all technical issues relating to substation and/or protection and control design/engineering.
  • Troubleshoot urgent issues and respond calmly and professionally in high-stress situations.
  • Assist upper management in establishing technical direction and philosophy for the department.
  • Provide team training, mentoring, and resource assignments.
  • Conduct team member performance reviews and evaluations.
  • Assist in business development efforts in the area of Substation and P&C business under the guidance of upper management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in substation engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, substation design, and power system analysis.
  • Experience with CAD software for modelling and simulation (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
