How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

The Supervisor, Revenue Equipment Repair is responsible to supervise revenue equipment repair employees and manage the preventive maintenance and overall repair maintenance and installation on all revenue fare collection related equipment. This includes, but is not limited to bus fareboxes, Ticket Reader Issue Machines (TRIM), bus mobile smart card validators (BMVs), cash fare collection equipment (receivers, cashboxes, cash counting and processing equipment), Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), Platform Fare Collection Validators (FCVs), Card Vending Machines (CVMs), All Point-of-Sale terminals (CPOS/MPOS). Develop and maintain security policies and procedures for these equipment systems.


What you would do in this job

  • Determine and enforce repair/maintenance requirements for: 1) Troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair of all revenue fare collection equipment at five garages and the OSC including data collection equipment hardware and software, all Ticket Vending Machines, and Rail Smartcard Validators on all Rail Stations. 2) All components installed in buses including smart card validators and fareboxes and farebox related devices.
  • Develop and track Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules, Farebox/TVM‘s and all other fare collection equipment errors and failures by type and frequency. Develop minimal and optimal requirements and develop corrective action to ensure acceptable parameters are achieved and maintained.
  • Develop an employee schedule that enables the department to meet individual work location and overall transit system requirements, assign employees to each shift per ATU contract and schedule replacements for short- and long-term absences. Fill vacant positions per Council, Metro Transit, ATU contract and department procedures. Track all employee‘s attendance and enforce attendance policy; adhere to FMLA policy requirements and recognizing proper use and reporting potential abuse to Human Resources and Manager.
  • Coach, train, mentor, recognize achievement and discipline employees based on each employee‘s ability to meet/exceed clearly defined standards of performance and conduct. Continuously improve ability to perform these employee development skills. Develop employees that have potential for promotion or positions of higher responsibility. Train all new employees hired into the department and conduct performance counseling as required by department policy or when needed to recognize achievements or to improve performance/conduct.
  • Establish procedures for 1) receiving malfunctioning equipment, 2) assigning repair work, and 3) tracking from issuing the equipment back to the original provider while monitoring repair work to meet warrantee requirements.
  • Prepare and evaluate an equipment inventory management system for all fare collection parts in maintenance shops/repair rooms and in the Material Management system to provide for sufficient part availability for immediate repairs and timely replenishment to minimize or prevent out of stock situations.
  • Develop electronic applications that will enhance efficiency and cost effectiveness of fareboxes and TVM‘s and validators used to collect passenger revenue.
  • Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Any of the following combinations of experience (in electronic, mechanical, or equipment repair) and completed education (degree field of study in electronics, engineering, or a closely related field):

  • High school diploma/GED with eight (8) years of experience including one (1) year of experience in management or supervision.
  • Associate degree with six (6) years of experience, including one (1) year of experience in management or supervision.
  • Bachelor‘s degree or higher with four (4) years of experience, including one (1) year of experience in management or supervision.
*Metropolitan Council Employees Only: Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.

Metro Transit Leadership Academy = 1 year
Project Management Development Program (12-month session) = 1 year
Project Management Development Program (6-month session) = 6 months
Four Learning Institute Certificates - You must obtain all four certificates listed below to receive credit for 6 months supervisory experience.

  • Leading Self-Personal Effectiveness Certificate
  • Leading Self-Communication Certificate
  • Leading Self-Business Skills Certificate
  • Leading Others-Preparing for Supervisor Certificate
Licensure:
Valid driver‘s license and a safe driving record.

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • An associate degree or two-year college/technical school certification or degree in electronics technology, engineering or closely related technical training field.
  • Experience as a Supervisory/Lead for electronic/mechanical related work unit of at least five full-time employees for two consecutive years.
  • Experience in technical project management work that required working and collaborating with multiple work groups.

What your work environment would be:
The job duties performed by the employee in a repair facility office with occasional local in-state travel to various garage locations. Work may occasionally be outdoors with exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is frequently performed near moving parts or equipment and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Position may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is exposed to moderate noise while performing their job duties.

What your physical requirements would be:
Position is regularly required to sit and may be required to stand and walk for extended periods. Position is required to speak, hear, read, and write, and has vision requirements (close, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus). Position is required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel and must have strength and manual dexterity to handle tools. Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to ten pounds and occasionally up to twenty-five pounds.
