Office Of School Health Nursing Program ManagerThe Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the New York City Department of Education and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. OSH is responsible for promoting the health of the 1.3 million students enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, reproductive health services, health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment.Duties will include but not be limited to:Assisting in the general administration and development of the nursing program with line responsibility for direct supervision/management of both DOHMH and NYCPS Borough Nursing Directors (BNDs) and their direct reports, and handle oversight activities across the City of New York.Assisting in planning, developing, organizing and directing Office of School Health regional and District 75 nursing program staff in all boroughs.Assisting in formulating, updating, and interpreting policies and procedures specifically related to nursing program development and school-based staff performance.Formulating and implementing policies and procedures to ensure effective training and education of new and existing Office staff.Coordinating activities with the BNDs which include monitoring of staffing levels in schools (SY and summer); updating OSH Management/ FTNT; staffing levels in district offices/regions, ensuring implementation of training and retraining activities, management of disciplinary procedures.Formulating and implementing policies and procedures to ensure effective training and education of new and existing Office staff.Supporting payroll (Citytime & Cybertheft) to ensure staff is paid correctly and in a timely manner, including regular approval of time for all BNDs and supporting approval of other regional or central staff as needed.Serving as a key member of the central nursing leadership team, close collaborating with the Assistant Director of Nursing Quality and Training as well as the Assistant Director of Nursing Policy and Special Projects and the Nursing Unit Chief of Staff to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations and quality care management for students in settings across the city.Serving as primary advisor to the Executive Director of Nursing on all nursing-related issues; and in the absence of the Executive Director of Nursing, may serve as nursing liaison to other Department of Health & Mental Hygiene programs New York City Public Schools (NYCPS), as well as to City, State and Federal agenciesPreferred skills:Experience managing professional staffExperience in program management and developmentAdministrative experience in public healthStrong knowledge of nursing skillsAbility to maintain effective working relationship with all levels of managementStrong analytical, organizational, follow through and active listening skillsAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; andGood computer skills using Word, Excel and Power Point.Why you should work for us:Loan Forgiveness: As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal/state loan forgiveness and repayment assistance programs that lessen your payments or even fully forgive your full balance.Benefits: City employees are entitled to unmatched benefits such as: a premium-free health insurance plan that saves employees over $10K annually, per a 2024 assessment.Work From Home Policy: Depending on your position, you may be able to work up to two days during the week from home.Job Security - you could enjoy more job security compared to private sector employment and be able to contribute to making NYC a healthy place to live and work.The NYC Health Department is an inclusive equal opportunity employer committed to providing access and reasonable accommodation to all individuals.
