TITLE Behavior Technician
REPORTS TO Chief Student Services Officer's Designee
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of a behavior specialist or Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), perform skilled, confidential support and assistance to classroom teachers and staff for students who demonstrate challenging behaviors in order to help these students access their education in the least restrictive environment.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Preferred: AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits).
- Preferred: BA in human services-related degree program
- Preferred: Current Certified Behavior Technician (obtained through the state of Washington) and/or Registered behavior Technician (obtained through Behavior Analyst Certification Board) certificate.
- Previous experience working with school-age children with special needs.
- Currently certified in a de-escalation training program such as CPI, Right Response, Safety care or willingness to attend district sponsored training and become certified within 30 days of employment.
Special Requirements
- Valid First Aid/CPR card
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
- I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date - District provided)
- Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date - District provided)

- Skilled in the use of behavior management strategies and positive behavior interventions and Trauma informed practices.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
- Ability and willingness to be flexible in responding to changing student and staff needs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide educational support, in the form of skills instruction in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching, challenging behavior reduction protocols, and other evidenced-based strategies based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
- Assist BCBA and teachers with monitoring and managing student progress through data and data analysis.
- Assist the district BCBA with staff trainings both in and out of the classroom
- Collect, record and summarize data on observable client behavior and communicate findings to BCBA and IEP team members as required.
- Effectively implement, model and communicate with teachers and other school staff regarding student individualized treatment and behavior plans as instructed by the BCBA or related student services administrators.
- May be responsible for implementing the duties of a classroom paraprofessional or 1:1 paraprofessional in the temporary absence of team members as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality
- Exercise sensitivity in working with individuals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cognitive and physical abilities as well as with individuals of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Assist classroom teachers/staff and district BCBA in preparing student materials as instructed.
- Adhere to federal and state laws and district regulations, policies, procedures and practices
- Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse, harassment, intimidation, bullying, boundary invasions, fights, substance abuse etc.
- Abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement
- Observe strict confidentiality regarding student information
- Maintain regular punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.- Use of a personal computer for extended periods of time
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing, & walking) for extended periods of time.
- Will require the safe collecting and keeping of data.
- May require physically intervening with a student whose behavior is escalating in such a manner as to present an imminent danger of harming self or other.
- Ability to run after students if they elope within or off-campus
- Ability to react quickly to intervene with de-escalation or protective/blocking strategies if a student becomes a safety threat to themselves or others
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between different job locations within the school district.

- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Sit for extended periods of time, walk, stand
- Attend off site trainings and workshops as deemed necessary
- Work is conducted in a shared, open, office environment with consideration toward equipment noise, confidentiality, voice volume
- The job is performed with the majority of time spent indoors and under minimal temperature variations; a portion of the day may be time spent outdoors and is subject to a variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
This position is part of the Specialized Support category represented by Public School Employees of Monroe collective bargaining unit. The position will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar. Salary and benefits as determined by the current bargaining agreement. Employees are required to complete all mandatory district training by specified deadlines.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
Performance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
