General Statement

Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation of a moderate-sized stockroom, stocking a large and diversified inventory.

Assigns, supervises and reviews work; ensures staff compliance with District policies and procedures including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures; completes performance reviews; addresses employee complaints and grievances; may recommend employment actions such as hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion or discharge. Oversees all functions of storeroom operations including incoming material, issues, and correct and safe storage of material to maintain inventory accuracy. Orders stock items from outside vendors or other District storerooms as required. Works with other District departments to ensure timely and accurate purchase in the most economical manner; coordinates with accounts payable for timely payment of vendor invoices. Plans and schedules work operations to provide proper and safe storage and disbursement of materials; recommends disposition of obsolete and scrap materials. Utilizes the computerized inventory database for access to inventory and purchasing records.

Other Job Functions

Contacts vendors and/or buyers regarding shipments. Reviews computerized inventory reports; distributes reports as necessary. Conducts employee training on use of equipment and compliance with existing and new procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions

Work activity is in a warehouse or storeroom environment, and involves exposure to a variety of tools, equipment, chemicals and other industrial materials.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of the types of equipment, materials and supplies stocked by the District. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of storeroom and warehousing operations. Ability to supervise general clerical work in connection with receiving, issuing and inventorying stock. Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate staff. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and four years of experience in computerized storeroom operations handling supplies, materials and equipment.

Substitution

Post high school education in business or public administration, engineering or allied science may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Promotional Requirement

One year of service with the District as a Storekeeper. Civil service status as a Storekeeper.
