Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position provides programming and related risk reduction interventions for adult residents at Norton Correctional Facility.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

This position is responsible for establishing and delivering classes and case management support in the areas of job preparedness, cognitive issues and family relations, for high risk and moderate risk offenders. Become trained and certified in the cognitive, family relations and job readiness curricula utilized by KDOC; establish classes and facilitate them for high risk and moderate risk offenders. Identify and implement programs/services for lower risk offenders as needed. Develop and establish a specific strategy related to responsibility, level of motivation and readiness of offenders to participate in cognitive and job preparedness classes and case planning; work with case managers and staff to implement this strategy, including use of an assessment process and strategies to engage offenders meaningfully in the process, and sustain that engagement. This position schedules, monitors and is responsible for all administrative aspects of the classes including forming the classes by working with case managers and the referral process. Establish a method for reviewing population in the facility to identify those who are high risk and moderate risk for the appropriate classes which are being facilitated and work with case managers to engage these offenders in classes/work done by this position. Formulate classes and class structure of lower risk classes that have less lengthy class room time and address life skill needs. These classes will include but not limited to financial matters, housing issues and family relations. Through this screening process ensure that program tracking codes are accurate and entered in a timely manner. Must ensure case managers and any stake holders have knowledge about class progress as appropriate, including any necessary TOADS entries and any other aspect of the administration of the classes. Must prepare program participation summaries upon completion of such classes. Collect whatever data is requested by the statewide team as needed to assess the effectiveness of the services provided through this position. This position will be prepared to assist with and ensure security issues are addressed, seeking assistance from shift supervisors and security staff. This to include proper dress and behavior of offenders. Become trained and certified in the cognitive, family relations and job readiness curricula and all other trainings developed and certified to use by KDOC for this specialized population. This position will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency’s programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Substitution: A bachelor’s degree in corrections/criminal justice or social services field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

Independent work experience in human services assistance. A bachelor’s degree in corrections/criminal justice or social services field, or equivalent experience. Two (2) years experience working with adult felons. Two (2) years experience delivering CBT programming to adult felons. Demonstrated knowledge of principles of evidence-based programming and core correctional practices, and practical experience implementing. Demonstrated facilitation skills.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Must become certified as a facilitator of Thinking For A Change, Job Readiness, Improving Family Relations, and any other curricula identified and deemed necessary by KDOC supervisory/management staff. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
