PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Departments of Aging and Disability Services, Developmental Services, Education and the Office of Early Childhood this class assists in planning and executing a program for the improvement of education in the state, responsible under supervision for carrying out specific assignments of limited difficulty and scope.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists in the development and administration of educational programs and services offered by the state; Provides professional leadership and guidance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals; May personally administer certain phases of educational program within the framework of bureau policy; May assist in directing the routine functioning of the bureau; Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned; Teaching skill; Ability to prepare reports; deal effectively with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of professional experience. Department of Aging and Disability Services: A Master's degree and three (3) years of professional experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of one of the following certifications, (061) Speech and Language Pathologist, (070) School Psychologist, (112) Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, Birth-Kindergarten, (113) Integrated Early Childhood/Elementary Education N-3 and Special Education N-K, (165) Comprehensive Special Education K-12, (092) .  Experience collaborating with other state agencies that support students’ Secondary Transition such as the Department of Developmental Disabilities, Aging and Disabilities Services, Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.  Experience working in a school or program addressing students’ academic and functional needs within the least restrictive environment.  Experience coordinating and managing special education programs or initiatives.  Experience communicating and working with internal and external collaborators to support special education students.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class in certain positions may be required to possess an appropriate certificate issued by the State Board of Education.
