Caseload midwifery is a specialised midwifery led unit at the Women’s hospital. Caseload, historically known as COSMOS, has continued to grow since it's commencement, as a part of a world-renowned randomised control trial conducted by La Trobe University and the Women’s hospital in 2007.

About Caseload Care

Our Caseload Program currently includes Caseload Midwifery Care for low-risk women, Baggarrook Yurrongi Caseload Midwifery Care specializing in continuity of midwifery care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, and Magnolia Caseload Midwifery Care specializing in care to women and families experiencing social inequity.

We are proud to offer two all-risk models of caseload care within The Women’s Hospital however, this role involves providing exceptional midwifery care to low risk women and families.

About the role

Caseload midwives work in small teams and provide midwifery care for an allocated group of low-risk women across the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period, in consultation with other clinicians as appropriate. Caseload midwives must be committed to providing care within a continuity of care model, be committed to working on-call, have excellent communication skills and value teamwork.

A full-time low risk Caseload Midwife will care for 45 women per year and at EFT the midwife will care for 36 women per year. All Caseload Midwives will also provide back-up and support for the other midwives in the caseload team. Within Caseload Midwifery, care is provided in antenatal clinic, during labour and birth, postnatal care on the postnatal ward and at home, and this role would also include administrative tasks.

This position involves a large degree of autonomy and has periods of work that are scheduled and unscheduled and requires a commitment to being on-call to provide the best possible continuity of care.

Key responsibilities will see you:

- Provide evidence-based, woman-centred care throughout the pregnancy, the intra-partum and postnatal periods.

- Develop and document care plans in collaboration with the woman and other health care professionals.

- Promote and support informed decision-making in the provision of midwifery care.

- Complete assessments of the health status of the woman by interview, observation, family interview, and by interpreting reports and other data.

- Provide health education for women and families and other family supports.

About you

You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the provision of midwifery care in a continuity of carer model, which focuses on the woman and her family.

You’ll bring with you:

- Two (2) plus years clinical Midwifery experience across the continuum of midwifery care

- Registration with AHPRA as a Midwife

- Experience in homebirth or a willingness to train in home birth/support home birth within caseload.

- Commitment to providing care from a Caseload and Team Care philosophy and understanding and acceptance of the rostering and on call arrangements related to the Caseload model.

- Have experience in IVC insertion, applying Fetal Scalp Electrodes (FSE), Speculum examination and examination of the newborn.

- Perineal suturing (or willingness to achieve within 6 months of commencement).

- Willingness to participate in quality and/or research projects to improve the standard of midwifery care

- Current Australian Driver's licence.
