Mental Health Occupational Therapist

Grade 2 - Part Time Ongoing role - EFT Provide a safe and neurodiversity affirming service to support positive self-identity of newly diagnosed consumers Provide occupational therapy specific assessments including sensory assessment

IWAMHS are dedicated to providing caring and high-quality specialist community and hospital-based mental health services for adults and older adults who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing a serious mental illness. We are committed to working with consumers during their recovery by offering evidence-based therapy, which is inclusive of family, carers and kin and provided by staff with well-developed skills.

Your new role:

The occupational therapist will be an integral part of the Autism Specialist team for IWAMHS, a new initiative providing a service for adult mental health consumers who are autistic or who require assessment for autism. The occupational therapist will work with a consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologist/coordinator, speech pathologist, psychiatry registrar and an autistic consumer peer worker.

Increasing access to mental health care for autistic consumers Work collaboratively with other clinical disciplines to provide high quality multi-disciplinary assessments and follow up care where necessary Contribute to reports and recommendations about supporting autistic consumers Provide consultation and capacity building to other IWAMHS Clinicians Undertake necessary specialist training required for the role Facilitate pathways to support services Provide occupational therapy support recommendations Provide secondary consultation to other IWAMHS Clinicians Contribute to the development and co-facilitation of group programs

About you:

Demonstrated interest in working with Autistic consumers Proficient in assessing sensory perception sensitivities and needs Solution focused 'can do' attitude and willingness to learn
