Job Overview:
Personnel in this position perform a variety of technical engineering and project management functions relative to the rehabilitation, repair, maintenance, and operation of irrigation canal systems and project lands owned by the DNRC.These job functions are the essential duties of the position and are not all-inclusive of all the duties that may be assigned to the incumbent.
Duties of this position include:
Oversight of operation and maintenance activities associated with the Department’s State Water Projects (SWP). Design and implementation of emergency repairs on SWP canal systems as needed to sustain contracted water deliveries. Identification, prioritization, and planning of repairs and rehabilitation efforts, and management of infrastructure improvements. Site visits and field work are frequently required to assist water users with repair procedures and to evaluate potential project sites.Incumbents will also be responsible for performing the required analysis and design work to evaluate and rectify deficiencies on state-owned canals and related structures.
This includes:
Site inspections, preparing technical reports, engineering analysis, procurement and management of design consultants, preparation of construction documents, and management of construction contracts. Work is typically performed in the office, however travel and fieldwork is required, approximately 25%. Field work will occur at various times in the year and in any weather conditions. Emergency repairs are variable and can occur 24/7.Ideal applicants should have experience with engineering design and project management that is applicable to water conveyance systems. This typically includes experience in the fields of hydraulic, hydrologic, geotechnical, and structural engineering.
