Correctional Rehabilitation Worker II

General Overview
Under the direction of an IIC Services Supervisor the Correctional Rehabilitation Worker (CRW) assists individuals in custody with various requests and needs, including but not limited to, their money, personal property, visitation assistance, filling out any necessary paperwork, or possibly arranging post-incarceration assistance through outside agencies. Assignments may include a population of incarcerated individuals that exhibit behavioral challenges and/or have been identified as being mentally ill.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Conducts scheduled visits for the assigned caseloads and provide timely responses to requests and inquires.
Provide back-up social service assistance with individuals in custody housed at any outlying hospital facility.
Provide back-up social service assistance and administrative support for co-workers, when called upon.
Assists individuals in custody with various issues pertaining to being incarcerated.
Provides assistance with general, personal, and custody-related inquiries from the social service agencies, law enforcement agencies and family members.
Gather and provide information for referral services.
Receives complaints from individuals in custody and attempts to resolve them, or otherwise refers them for further handling in a timely manner.
Documents all caseload activities, maintains records, and prepares reports related to the daily responsibilities.
Conducts, on occasion, pre-release services and after care planning which would aid individual after being discharged from CCDOC.
Assists the IIC Services management in service processes, and system needs and long-range planning.
Assists the IIC Services management with initiating and developing rehabilitation programs for inmates.
Provides training and mentorship to new-hire CRWs and assists departmental supervisors with implementing quality assurance measures.

·Walk long distances, daily (minimum 2 miles) and throughout the various CCDOC divisions and units.
·Quickly and effectively grasp and utilize the policies, protocols, systems, procedures, and technical vernacular of IIC Services and CCDOC as they are applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities.
·Remain professional, optimistic, patient, understanding, compassionate, and sensitive in all situations.
·Motivate, guide, and teach individuals in custody as needed.
·Train and mentor in coordination with departmental staff and supervisors.
·Effectively make decisions, exercise diplomacy, gather information.
·Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
·Meet prescribed deadlines.
·Participate in implementing programming, classes, or workshops.
·Work effectively and professionally with all staff at all levels.
·Work comfortably in a correctional facility, with individuals in custody and convicted felons.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Sciences.
The ability to apply for and obtain a commission as an Illinois Notary Public, at the expense of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience in social work in a correctional setting or a closely allied filed.
Availability to Work Shift: 7am-3pm
Availability to Work Detail 1:Monday thru Friday, excluding Government Holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in Social Sciences.
Possession of a current commission as an Illinois Notary Public.
Extensive experience in laws governing the establishment and operations of CCDOC and municipal, state criminal codes and procedures, and knowledge of basic penal management security.
