This position is with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (ODFW) located in Tillamook, Oregon.

What you will do:

Beaver Damage Field Response:

·         Receive and respond to beaver damage complaints and provide technical advice to private/public landowners and municipalities.

·         Evaluates damage including threats to infrastructure and recommends corrective measures (tree protection, beaver excluder or pond-leveling devices, relocation, removal, etc.) in consultation with staff and following appropriate policy (e.g., fish passage).

·         Issue removal permit if applicable

·         Collaborates with USDA Wildlife Services agents as needed

·         Follow-up for outcomes

Beaver Habitat Restoration:

·         In partnership with landowners, land managers, NGOs, ODFW restoration staff, identify and implement stream and riparian restoration projects that enhance beaver habitat where suitable.

·         Develop and implement protocols to monitor enhancement projects.

·         Describes findings orally or in writing depending on complexity of the survey and makes recommendations for population protection and management to District Wildlife Biologist.

·         Summarizes data collected.

Working Conditions:

·         May be required to operate vehicles with manual or automatic transmissions and 4-wheel drive vehicles during the day or at night, occasionally pulling a boat, or other type of trailer.

·         Work and drive in remote locations on adverse terrain in sometimes inclement weather. Requires physical ability to travel, on foot, in all types of terrain and weather, sometimes for long distances. Occasional work in aircraft, such as helicopters.

·        Use of a SPOTS card for work-related purchases

·         This position requires occasional use of a firearm to deliver immobilization drugs and projecting nets for wildlife capture, euthanizing injured or sick wildlife, killing or hazing nuisance animals or birds, collecting animals for research or other studies, and protection from dangerous animals in close quarters.

·         Work some weekends, holidays and evenings, including unusual hours.

·         Respond to emergency environmental problems, such as chemical spills.

·         May involve contact with irate landowners/public/hunters/anglers.

·         This position requires a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.

·         This position requires annual first aid/CPR training and certification.

·         This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board.

·         This position requires an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card for on-the-job use of quads and three-wheeled ATVs (Class 1 ATVs) obtained through the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

·         This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, and does not exceed forty (40) hours in a workweek. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires prior approval by the supervisor.
