Job Description

Our Development & Permits department is seeking a dynamic, motivated Mechanical/Gas Compliance Inspector I who enjoys spending time in the field.

The successful candidate for this position will be able to do the following:Perform daily mechanical/gas field inspections on residential and commercial structures in assigned areas to verify compliance with the State codes for the New Construction division.Respond to complaints regarding improper mechanical/gas construction.Ability to work within the work group by fostering good communication and exchange of ideas.Communicate the requirements of the codes in a clear and efficient manner.Ability to integrate the Department and City policies into normal day to day activities.Enjoys working with citizens to help resolve issues and complete projects.Earn promotions by becoming cross-trained and certified in multiple disciplines.Complete all required state training and pass certification exam(s) within 18 months of hire. Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in urban planning, environmental health/studies, engineering, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards. Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies Preferred Qualifications Mechanical Master Tradesman License Preferred
