POSITION: Forestry Aide (3 Positions)

SALARY:  $15.78, per hour

REPORTS TO: James Albertsen, Henry Kuehne 

LOCATION:  Nespelem/Keller, WA 

Basic Functions: This is an Entry level position that performs basic forest management work for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. This is the entry level in this series classification- Individual at this level desiring promotion to the next higher level (Forestry Technician I) will have to apply and compete for positions when they are advertised. An employee occupying a position at this grade level is responsible for assisting professional foresters, the Supervisory Forestry Technician (or Supervisory Forester), or Forestry Technicians of higher grade levels by performing a variety of technical forestry tasks requiring basic knowledge of forest biology, related physical sciences, and the practical application of standard forestry methods and techniques. The work involves activities related to timber sale layout, sale administration on major timber sales, log scaling, presales cruising, forest engineering assignments, fire suppression, and forest development. The nature of work is characterized by the varied nature of assignments.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

Requires a High school diploma or equivalent, with some course work in mathematics and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). A strong math and science background is highly recommended.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Requires familiarity with forest environments.  Requires knowledge in the use of tools and equipment specific to forestry operations Requires knowledge of forest fire suppression techniques.  Requires ability to identify all local species of trees. Requires ability to conduct various forest surveys Requires ability to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks in the outside environment, under all types of weather and terrain conditions Requires ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.  Requires ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and the ability to applied guidelines to varied and specific situations.  Requires ability to work flexible hours and overtime, as needed to meet work assignments.  Requires skill in the use of various manual and power tools and equipment used in forestry operations. Requires familiarity and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database software
