Purpose of Classification:  

The purpose of this classification is to provide security and customer service for park visitors and perform general maintenance and upkeep of park facilities. 

This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy. 

Essential Functions:   

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

Provides customer service to the public; greets and offers information to visitors; and fosters public relations between the department and the public. 

Protects Park patrons, staff and property; assists in maintaining peace and order on park property; de-escalates and resolves conflicts; carries out enforcement through use of verbal warnings; and enforces DeKalb County’s Park ordinances, rules and regulations. 

Patrols assigned parks and recreation areas to deter criminal activity, prevent crime and provide building security; and promotes safe parks, programs and facilities. 

Patrols on foot and bicycle and operates equipment and motor vehicles including light trucks and ATVs.

Responds to emergency situations by, providing first aid and emergency assistance and requests appropriate medical assistance when necessary. Clears trails, locks restrooms and secures facilities after hours.

Collects trash from park areas as needed; and inspects all areas for cleanliness and safety. 

Performs administrative work including but not limited to preparing daily reports summarizing incidences; answering telephones, typing and filing; and notifying violation of parks rules to proper departments. 

Attends and actively participates in community and staff meetings and trainings. 

Minimum Qualifications:  

High school diploma or GED required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
