Summary

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for recognizing patients appropriate for referral or consultation with the collaborating physician. The APRN functions relatively independently as guided by approved clinical protocols and privileges and functions within the scope of practice for a licensed APRN. Ongoing collaboration with physicians, nursing staff and other health team members is essential.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to: Influences and models the delivery of evidence-based health care, demonstrating expertise in the ability to manage a patient panel, population or program Leads and implements changes that enhance the quality and timeliness of Veteran/patient care applying research and evidence in the delivery of healthcare for patient populations Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams informed by structured approaches and processes to improve outcomes that positively impact care for a patient panel, population or program Acquires knowledge and skills, then disseminates acquired information within and/or outside the medical facility Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams developing systems that positively impact outcomes at the panel, population, or program level. Demonstrates effective communication skills and professional behavior, promoting cooperation and team The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) functions under the leadership of the Chief of Radiation Oncology Service. The Chief Nurse Executive serves as a consultant regarding the professional practice of nursing. The APRN is responsible for providing comprehensive health care to assigned patients Clinical activities may include, but are not limited to: (1) clinical assessment and evaluation;
(2) health care management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses;
(3) ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies;
(4) consultation and referrals;
(5) patient follow-up, and procedures that may include performing or assisting with marker seed placement, volume studies, and other minor procedures performed in the clinic setting
(6) health promotion and disease prevention;
(7) patient, family, and staff education and counseling;
(8) clinical research
(9) informed consent; and
(10) administrative activities, including performance improvement activities, committee and task force assignments, and administrative, research, and non-clinical tasks as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full Time Monday - Friday 8:00 am. - 4:30 pm. (may be required to work extended hours, as needed)
