Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

Responsibilities

The Leading Teachers - Senior School at Bemin Secondary College:

·Foster a positive learning climate and culture of high expectations, challenge and engagement.

·Work with the Principal Team to support teachers in quality instruction, curriculum planning and implementation.

·Model effective and exemplary teaching and learning strategies in the classroom

·Work collegially and collaboratively with the Assistant Principal ¿ Teaching & Learning to implement the College¿s Teaching and Learning Framework and common instructional model across all year levels including VCE (VCE/VM).

·Support the curriculum development/planning across the discipline/s area in line with the Victorian curriculum, VCAA guidelines for VCE and DE Initiatives (, FISO 2, Maths

·Support teachers across Senior school in analysing and using data to inform instruction, including pre and post testing, taking note of VCAA examiner notes & advice, implementation of improvement and differentiation strategies and moderation of student work in order to monitor and maximise student learning growth.

·With the Principal and Leadership team to develop practices for student feedback in line with the Developmental Model of Assessment and VCAA requirements for VCE.

·Contribute to the development and implementation of the Year 10-12 Program.

·Research and initiate new programs targeting improved student behaviour and performance.

·Monitor reporting and promoting student engagement in the Senior school.

·Collaborate with the Leadership Team in the provision and implementation of strategies and prevention programs.

·Develop student voice, agency and leadership opportunities for all students. This includes promoting and developing student leadership initiatives, and student participation in the life of the College, including: student-run assemblies, leadership training, student-initiated activities.

·Implementation of Individual Learning Plans.

·Develop and Co-ordinate protocols within the sub-school for: Attendance, Punctuality, Uniform, Lockers, Exams, and Assemblies.

·Monitor student attendance across Senior school which may include VET student attendance, VCE early Access programs in consultation with members of the Senior team

·Use Compass and the School to Work Portal to monitor students¿ enrolment/attendance and analyse behaviour data

·Liaise with Senior School Administrative Assistant / VASS coordinator regarding VASS /VCAA requirements

·Liaise with the Leading teacher Careers & Pathways, and Wynbay LLEN regarding delivery and monitoring of VM structured workplace learning programs.

·Ensure accurate recording and consistent management of student behaviour procedures including the implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviours framework, behaviour expectations and conduct of Academic Reviews.

·Support the relevant school staff in the planning and implementation special activities for Senior school Formal; Valedictory dinner year 12.

·Work with the Principal team and Leading Teacher Careers & Pathways and Leading Teacher - Transitions to support Senior school Pathway/course counselling support and subject selections processes.

·Liaise closely with the Leadership team to ensure a coherent overall College strategy to student management and learning support.

·Complete tasks as requested by the College Principal.

Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
