Summary

Position serves as Senior Audiologist in the Audiology Unit of the Kayenta Health Center, a 13 bed inpatient short stay facility with associated outpatient clinics serving in excess of 20,000 patients. Patients are referred to Audiology Clinic from area schools and hospitals and outpatient clinics. Patient case load consists primarily of Navajo Indians of all age groups.

The incumbent: Performs the full range of Audiology Services. Conducts hearing evaluation and related tests using modern computerized equipment. Tests commonly performed include: Air Conduction and Bone Conduction Tests, Sisi Test, SRT Discrimination, Tympanograms with acoustic reflect, and Auditory Brain Stem Evoked Response. Interprets the findings of hearing evaluation tests. Explains these findings to the patient, patient's family and referring physician. Develops plans to reduce hearing deficits. Evaluates patient need for hearing aids, and where appropriate, fit person to ear mold. Determine proper hearing aid for the patient, and instructs patient in its use. Orders and dispenses hearing aids. Maintains inventory of hearing aids according to government policies. Performs minor repairs and arranges for more extensive repairs via manufacturer. Requisitions equipment, arranges for calibration and test equipment.
