What you need to qualify 

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services or a field related to human services and one year of lead work, supervision, or progressively related human services experience; OR

  • A bachelor’s degree unrelated to human services and completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency and one year of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience in human services; OR

  • An associate degree and three years of human services related experience one year of which must have included lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR

  • An associate degree and completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency AND one year lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience in human services.

Your duties at a glance 

As an employee working within the , you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon’s most vulnerable children and families. Your dedication will help us achieve the Child Welfare that will support children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma and achieve a greater well-being.  

As a Permanency Unit Supervisor, you will: 

  • Develop, direct, and manage a cohesive Permanency Child Welfare Service unit.

  • Ensure high quality child welfare and child protective services practice through coaching and mentoring; establishing and maintaining cooperative work relationships with community partners; and, fostering a work environment which supports professionalism, continuous professional development, collaboration and a commitment to children and families.

  • Build in natural supports for the family to thrive.

  • Be centered on the families we serve with the purpose of protecting the child through strengthening the family and assisting the parents in resolving factors which underlie the maltreatment of the child.

  • Lead with the goal of the child remaining in the home or with reunification as the primary goal if the child is removed. If the child is unable to remain at home or be reunified with their parent, another permanency plan will be developed and implemented.

  • Lead with professional competence in child welfare issues, social service planning, social service delivery systems, consultation, management skill and community resource networking.

Working conditions 

  • Most of your work will be conducted in the office and community. Occasional remote work may be approved but will be conducted in a hybrid format.

  • You may need to work over the 40 hours/week to meet service needs. This includes both evening and weekend work.

  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.

  • Walking into stressful situations that may require quick decision-making skills to ensure safety of those being serviced and own physical safety. This may also be trauma inducing.
