Description

The Facility Services department is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to join its dynamic downtown team. This position will work on a wide variety of systems from locks, lighting, grounds, and light maintenance. The ideal candidate will need to possess strong aptitude with hand tools, be able to work on ladders, lifts, and be outside in extreme temperatures.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a  $500 referral bonus. Location and hours:
This position is located at Hennepin County's Public Safety Facility at 401 4th Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours will be 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. About the position type :
This is a full-time, benefit earning position. 
This position is internally classified as a Facilities Maintenance Worker.
Click here to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will: Collect and dispose of trash and litter and empty trash receptacles. Clean, service, and check fluids and batteries of vehicles and small gas engines. Maintain sidewalks, driveways, and other concrete surfaces. Maintain foliage, grass and shrubs, and adjust sprinkler heads as needed. Maintain interior structure; walls, floors, windows, doors, ceilings, light fixtures and lights, and vents. Maintain exterior structure such as fences, ledges, and hinges. Order, deliver, receive, and inventory equipment and supplies both to facility and to other county locations. Inspect, assemble, deliver office furniture and maintain storage areas for surplus. Assist trades person or contractor in locating equipment and/or setting it up. Remove, replace, and clean filters Maintain underground sprinklers. Perform minor tune-up and lubrication of small gas engines. May repair lamps and lighting fixtures. Replace wall and floor tiles (ceramic, plastic). Maintain suspended acoustical ceiling system. Install ready-made cabinets and counters.
Need to have: One of the following:One year or more of custodial or general mechanical and facilities maintenance experience.Completion of the Building Operations Technician Pathway training program. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit. Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work under conditions hazardous to oneself and others; work outdoors in extreme temperatures.
Nice to have: Experience:Servicing and repairing snow removal and power equipment.Maintaining and repairing commercial and/or corrections grade lock systems. Knowledge of the use of hand and power tools. Basic computer skills. Ability to:Operate motorized snow removal equipment.Work early and/or extended hours, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the needs of the facilities.Communicate effectively with customers, clients, and co-workers.Work as a team member and independently to complete assigned work.Work with customers or clients from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
