DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a County Caseworker you will be responsible for performing the following duties:
Participate in formal and informal training programs which provide the latest developments in the field of mental health, including new treatment modalities, interventions, resources and applicable laws, methods, procedures, rules and regulations governing the operation of the agency.
Learn about the network of available community resources by reviewing resource files, site visits, and working with and observing higher level caseworker staff. Receives instruction regarding the reason for and proper completion of applicable forms and paperwork. Completes and updates case notes regularly.
Perform a variety of entry level social services and case management duties designed to provide supportive services to children, youth and families, people who are mentally disabled and others, including monitoring the health and safety of those supported. Assist clients and their families in developing and using their own potential for more adequately resolving their social, health, emotional and economic problems. Promote individuality, choice and control in their lives.
Guide clients in home and budget management, housing, childcare and parenting skills, employment, recreation and living arrangements. Schedule and conduct interviews and follow-up visits to provide service and counseling. Make referrals to other public and private social services and community agencies and resources to meet client needs; assists clients and their families in connecting to community resources.
Attend and participate in case reviews and supervisory conferences and is exposed to a variety of learning experiences, including forms and on-the-job training programs, designed to develop professional and technical skills. Document activities and services using designated agency methods and procedures, including social service summaries, correspondence, and reports.
Build relationships, advocate and collaborate with individuals, families, and providers to assess needs, treatment planning and provide support and quality information through monitoring of people receiving support and services. Develop, complete and update Individualized Service Plans and ensures services are received as outlined in the ISP.
Provide crisis intervention, facilitate meetings and discussions, and perform related work as required.
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- On occasion, staff may need to work hours outside of the set work week to complete projects, meet work demands or in the event of an emergency.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- A bachelor‘s degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
