We are seeking a Permanency Worker (Teens Unit) (Social Service Specialist 1) to join our Oregon City Child Welfare team.

What you need to qualify 

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services or a field related to human service, OR

  • A bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services and either:

    • One year of Human Services related experience; OR

    • Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency; OR

  • An associate degree and either:

    • Two years of Human Services related experience; OR

    • One year of Human Services related experience and related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.

  • Awareness of and experience implementing the .

  • Experience screening and assessing clients for appropriate community referral or eligibility for programs related to human services.

  • Experience preparing and maintaining narrative documentation of the activities concerning individual client cases.

  • Understanding of and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Experience communicating effectively with people over the telephone, in writing and in person.

  • Computer proficiency and attention to detail and timelines.

  • Experience working with children and families through a trauma-informed lens.

As a Permanency Worker, you will: 

  • Support families and promoting prevention. Our Child Welfare transformation is built on trauma-informed, family and community-centered and culturally responsive programs and services focused on engagement, equity, safety, well-being, and prevention.

  • Enhance our staff and infrastructure. Our Child Welfare transformation depends on a diverse, supported, skilled, respected and engaged workforce that reflects and embraces the communities we serve.

  • Enhance the structure of our system by using data with continuous quality improvement. Our Child Welfare transformation is built on data-informed practice and is supported by continuous quality improvement and modernized information technology systems and tools.

  • Improve the equity and inclusion of all aspects of the ODHS Child Welfare and provides anti-racist, inclusive, equitable and culturally appropriate services to children, young adults, and families.

  • Play an imperative role in balancing the needs of the child and the family in conjunction with legal requirements.

  • Have a unique opportunity to build rapport with families, understand their uniqueness, and learn more about how each family functions.

  • Engage with children, young adults, families, resource parents, and caregivers in a multitude of ways to achieve the safety, permanency, and optimal outcomes for Oregon’s children and families.

Working conditions 

  • Majority of your work will be conducted in the office and community. You may have some opportunities for remote work, but this will need to be discussed with and approved by your manager.  

  • Your hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs.  Occasional compensated overtime may be required, including evening and weekend work. 

  • Travel with the purpose of transporting children is required. Some travel may be hours away.

  • You may come into contact with individuals who have experienced trauma and have difficulty controlling their emotions.
