The Division of Adult Institutions is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher – ABE and Communications position. This position will be headquartered at Fox Lake Correctional Institution in Fox Lake, WI.
Position Summary
This position will develop and implement a program of professional educational services in Communications (WTCS # 801) and ABE to students in order to meet their assessed individual academic and/or vocational needs. This position will also complete all required documentation of student assessment/progress and other reporting requirements in a timely manner, monitor and manage student behavior, attend staffing and meetings and serve as an effective interdisciplinary team member and provide training to others and engage in specialized instruction and projects upon request.
Salary Information
Starting salary for this position is $28.55 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Candidates may receive supplemental pay, up to $2.97/hr., for additional credits relevant to the position that are over & above the credits needed for certification.
Pay upon appointment will be in accordance with language in the Compensation Plan, Statutes, and Administrative Code. This position is in pay schedule/range 13-04. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.
Note: Remote work is not available for this position.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants must meet criteria determined by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) in Communications (801) as described below:
Bachelor degree from an accredited college including at least 20 semester credits in any combination of English, Reading Instruction, Journalism, Speech (not drama or theater), Communication or Literature (if appropriate) AND
Applicants must meet criteria determined by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) in Adult Basic Education (ABE). Applicants must meet one of the five areas listed below:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Elementary Education, or
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Secondary Education in the area of Reading, English, Math Science or Social Studies, or
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Special Education, or
Bachelor's Degree or higher with a minor in any one of the following areas (Math, Reading, English, Science, or Social Studies), or
Bachelor's Degree or higher with 15 combined semester credits in Math, Reading, English, Science or Social Studies.
Special Note: At the point of hire, the candidate must share evidence of having met (or contract to meet) Faculty Quality Assurance System (FQAS) competencies,
Instructors not meeting Educational Degree and FQAS requirements: Must be willing to obtain an Associate Degree from an accredited program. Progress toward an Associate Degree will be measured through the successful completion of a minimum of six (6) credits of coursework annually, beginning with the second year of employment.
