Description

The Child Protection Services area in the Human Services department is seeking a Senior Social Worker for the Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) unit. FGDM is a family-centered, strengths-based and culturally relevant approach to engaging families that can aid the collaboration between the family and the agency. FGDM gathers the parents and the extended family of children involved with Hennepin County Child Protection, or other child welfare services, together to thoughtfully and carefully plan for the protection and safety of their children. As the Children Family Services area continues its mission with transformation and our work on disparities and equity, additional facilitation expectations will be required.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both in the community and remote as job duties require. This position will require some traveling throughout and outside of Hennepin County to conduct in-person meetings with families. Generally, the work schedule is Monday through Friday, typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., but schedule flexibility is essential as some of the conferences may be held in the evenings and/or weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. 
 

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive  $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position you will:

Prepare and maintain case records, case findings, correspondences, and reports. Facilitate meetings between social workers/service providers and family members.  Increase family engagement in collaborative decision making for the purposes of case planning, placement prevention, reunification, safety planning, permanency planning and/or for youth preparing for independence. Collaborate with social workers in all Child Protection Service areas, Kinship, Foster Care Licensing, Child Welfare, Child Services, Children's Mental Health, Extended Foster Care, and community agencies using the Family Group Decision Making model. Need to have: One of the following:Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and  18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles or social welfare. A valid driver's license and daily access to reliable transportation to travel primarily within/outside of the metro area to meet with clients in their residential settings and/or perform authorized off-site work duties. Experience:Working within child welfare.Coordinating and facilitating meetings between social workers, service providers, and family members.Increasing family engagement in collaborative decision making for the purposes of case planning, placement prevention, reunification, safety planning, permanency planning and/or for youth preparing for independence.Using Microsoft Teams and Zoom to facilitate virtual meetings. Ability to:Possess awareness and sensitivity to various cultural practices and strengths. Engage quickly and effectively with children, youth, families, and service providers.Be assertive in moving meetings forward.Manage conflict and emotional situations without becoming central to the process.
