Duties
General DescriptionThis position serves as a staff Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist, Assistive Technology Practitioner, Seating and Mobility Specialist, in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Harry S. Truman VA Medical Center, Columbia, MO. The Harry S. Truman VA Medical Center is a general medical and surgical facility, classified as a Level 1C Complexity. The incumbent Occupational Therapist is assigned responsibility for serving as the subject matter expert in seating and mobility with manual and power mobility and assistive technology in Occupational Therapy. The Occupational Therapist who works at this level provides assessment and treatment intervention in in seating and mobility with manual and power mobility and assistive technology in Occupational Therapy on an independent basis across the continuum of care and services provided by PM&RS.
The incumbent is required to apply advanced evaluation methodologies and skills to address the seating and positioning and assistive technology with the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, integumentary, or cognitive impairments. The Occupational Therapy Specialist is expected to carry out general duty assignments but primarily serves as subject matter expert in seating and mobility and assistive technology at least 25% of the time. This position supports the Medical Center, acute inpatient, short stay skilled, and long-term care Occupational Therapy referrals. The incumbent is responsible for participating in activities leading to the advancement of the Occupational Therapy profession.
