Background and Location
The Okefenokee Regional Library System (OKRLS) furnishes library services for Appling, Bacon,
Clinch, Pierce, and Ware counties having a combined population of 92,300 people. The library system
is made up of five affiliated branch libraries located in the cities of Alma, Baxley, Blackshear,
Homerville, and Waycross. The Waycross-Ware County Public Library serves as the headquarters of
OKRLS and is located at 401 Lee Avenue in Waycross, Georgia.

Job Summary
This is a full-time exempt professional position under the general direction of the Regional Director.
Duties include planning, organizing, and implementing youth services for the Region and assisting
with administrative duties for the Region as assigned by the Director for the Okefenokee Regional
Library System, headquartered in Waycross, Georgia.

Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) or equivalent from a program
accredited by the American Library Association
• Excellent communication skills; both written and oral
• Time management skills; set priorities and meet assigned deadlines
• Have or be able to obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License
• Have or be able to obtain a license from the Georgia State Board for the certification of
librarians
• Knowledge of the use of computers and internet technology, including but not limited to MS
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

Position Responsibilities
• Working with the branch managers, oversees, plans, and/or implements all library-sponsored
youth services programming for region; including a monthly Storytime and the annual
Summer Reading Program
• Working with the branch managers, actively pursues and engages in outreach opportunities in
the area of youth services through community events and programming
• Communicates with home schoolers, teachers, students, parents, and community members to
help improve library services
• Hires special performers in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program
• Plans for and orders craft supplies and any other items needed for youth programming
• Organizes and gives tours of the library and its services to school groups, etc.

• Composes and prepares public relations materials such as news releases, flyers, brochures, and
social media posts; clearing them with the library director before they are printed out or put
out for the public
• Assists in book selection of youth materials (books and av), and inventory and weeding of
youth collection
• Reads and responds to correspondence and email pertaining to youth services
• Compiles statistics on attendance of all youth programs throughout the year for the annual
report and statistics on the summer reading program
• Works on the circulation desk as needed checking library materials in and out
• Deals tactfully and courteously with the public, upholding all confidentiality rights of patrons
and patron records as stated in Georgia statutes
• Upholds established library policies and procedures
• Works closely with the library director in planning programs and maintains an effective
working relationship with fellow staff members, team-oriented
• Uses library provided means for continuing education and training. Attends training,
workshops, conferences, and other continuing education related to youth services as approved
by the director
• Other duties as assigned

Special Working Conditions
Work in a library environment; sustained posture in a standing or seated position for prolonged
periods of time; perform lifting, crouching and pushing; extensive keyboard usage; will travel to other
locations.

Salary is based on the applicant’s experience as a librarian as well as state and local funding. Excellent
